Germany wants to supply more weapons to Ukraine. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has agreed to deliver 2,700 anti-aircraft missiles, the German news agency DPA reported based on insiders.
These are Strela anti-aircraft missiles developed by the Soviet Union and once belonged to the German Democratic Republic (GDR) army.
According to DPA, the Ministry of Defense has recently looked into whether more weapons can be delivered to Ukraine.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced last weekend that he would send 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine. Germany refused to supply weapons to conflict zones for years.
“The Russian raid on Ukraine marks a turning point in history. It threatens our common post-war order,” Scholz said at the time.
