The death toll from airstrikes on Thursday in a residential area in the northern Ukraine city of Chernihiv has risen to 47, local authorities said Friday.
In an earlier report, authorities spoke of nine dead.
Rescue teams have had to suspend assistance to victims of the airstrikes due to ongoing shelling by the Russians, Ukrainian emergency services said.
Chernihiv is located northeast of the capital Kyiv, not far from the borders of Russia and Belarus.
