The French Minister of Health, Olivier Veran, thinks it is quite possible that the new mutated variant of the coronavirus is already circulating in France.
However, according to Veran, the mutation has not yet been identified in tests.
Veran also said the corona vaccine probably works just as well against the mutation as it does against the earlier form of the virus. “Theoretically, there is no reason why it shouldn’t work.”
The new corona variant was first identified in the United Kingdom. According to the British government, it is 70 percent more contagious than the known variety.
Many countries, including the Netherlands, France, Denmark and Germany, no longer allow travellers from the United Kingdom. Many countries outside Europe have also halted air traffic with the United Kingdom.
