The US drug watchdog FDA is imposing strict restrictions on Johnson & Johnson’s corona vaccine after the vaccine was linked to a risk of serious thrombosis (blood clots).
In concrete terms, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine may now only be administered to adults if an injection with Pfizer or Moderna is not possible for medical reasons or due to stock problems. In addition, an opening is also made for people who do not want an mRNA vaccine due to “personal doubts”.
After reviewing 60 cases of thrombosis, the FDA decided 9 of which were deaths.
Just under 19 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s corona vaccine were administered in the US, accounting for about 3 percent of the total number of doses.
