The number of coronavirus deaths in Sweden has risen to above 5000.
The Swedish public health agency announced on Wednesday that 102 new deaths had been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 5041.
During the corona crisis, Sweden took less stringent measures than many other European countries, which has led to a relatively high death rate, according to critics.
In neighbouring countries, far fewer people died, such as 598 in Denmark and 242 in Norway.
There were relatively fewer deaths in Sweden than in Italy, Great Britain and Spain, where there were lockdowns.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven said earlier that he believes it is still too early to draw a “definitive conclusion about the success of our strategy”.
