Russia gathers troops at Gomel airport in Belarus for an attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Ukraine’s army chief of staff said Friday.
Russian troops are advancing towards Kyiv from multiple directions. For example, there is fierce fighting in cities that are tens of kilometres away from Kyiv. Ukraine is trying to stop the Russian army and has therefore blown up an important bridge to the capital.
Russia has carried out several rocket attacks on Kyiv. “Russia is increasingly attacking civilian targets to intimidate the Ukrainian population,” the army chief said on Facebook.
According to the chief of staff, fighting continues around Mariupol in the south and in Kharkov in the northeast of the country.
