Proud Alaphilippe is going to Hurt himself Extra. Julian Alaphilippe is proud to be the last to leave the starting podium in Pau tomorrow for the individual time trial in the Tour de France.
He is the leader in the general classification, also after the first Pyrenees stage in this Tour.
“It may have seemed like a calm ride, but it wasn’t.
Fortunately, the day went well,” said Deceuninck – Quick-Step Frenchman after the twelfth stage won by the British Simon Yates.
“It is unbelievable that I am still driving in the yellow and can start last in the time trial.
It means so much to me and fills me with pride,” said Alaphilippe, good for eleven victories this year including the Strade Bianche,
Milan. -Sanremo, the Waalse Pijl and the third stage of this Tour.
“I have explored the time trial route before. It is beautiful, tough, certainly not easy.
As a wearer of the yellow jersey, I will hurt myself even more than I normally do.
I’m going to push my limits.”
Alaphilippe starts the time trial with a 1.12 lead on his first pursuer, the British Geraint Thomas.
