Instagram has announced Edits, a new video editing app. This happened on the day that TikTok briefly went offline in the United States.
Around the same time, X competitor Bluesky launched a so-called custom feed for vertical videos, with which it wants to step up the battle with TikTok. Finally, X itself will also come with an update.
According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, edits, which are due to be released later this month, are more than just video editing applications. They are a ‘full suite of creative tools’, he reports on his platform. For example, a tab will allow users to find inspiration for editing their videos. Concepts for edited videos can also be shared with other users.
Alternatives at will
With this, Meta subsidiary Instagram is presenting itself as an alternative to TikTok. The social media group also increased the advertisements in the Apple App Store last weekend. Anyone who searched for ‘TikTok’ was greeted with a promotion for Instagram.
Bluesky has also been working overtime to develop a new TikTok-like video feature. It’s being rolled out to users gradually and will eventually be found via the Search tab (as a Trending Videos Beta ). You can swipe to watch more videos or pin videos to your feed list.
As mentioned, X also announced an update. Elon Musk’s platform also comes with a tab where users can watch videos. X speaks of ‘an immersive new environment for videos’, but for now, the feature only works for users in the United State
