Germany Plans to Extend Corona Support for Companies

Germany plans to extend economic support for companies affected by the corona crisis until the end of September. A government source told Reuters news agency.

As in many other countries, companies in Germany can claim support if they can demonstrate that their income has fallen sharply due to the crisis. The current arrangement is due to expire at the end of June.

Economic Minister Peter Altmaier has said he favours an extension until the end of the year. This means that the support package would not be an issue in the national elections in September.

The government is expected to agree on Wednesday to extend the special short-time working benefits until the end of September to compensate for the effect of the corona crisis on the labour market.
