India reported another record number of daily corona infections on Friday. In the past 24 hours, 96,551 cases were added, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
About 4.5 million residents have been infected since the virus outbreak.
In no other country is the number of infections increasing as quickly as in India. After the United States, it is the hardest hit worldwide.
The number of deaths in the country of nearly 1.4 billion inhabitants has remained relatively low but is rising.
Over a thousand deaths are reported every day in the past ten days.
On Friday, 1,209 people died from Covid-19, the ministry said, bringing the total death rate to 76,271.
