European Commission More Optimistic About Economy in the Euro Countries

Fifteen member states of the European Union have agreed to receive some 40,000 people in need from Afghanistan.

That said, European Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson on Thursday after a meeting of European interior ministers.

In recent months – after the Taliban took power – member states have already evacuated 28,000 people from the country, according to the European Commission. The 40,000 are on top of that.

This is clarified in a letter to the interior ministers, which the German news agency dpa was able to view. For example, it concerns exactly 38,146 people, and Germany takes in the majority, a group of 25,000.

The letter refers to 60,000 admissions places in 2021 and 2022. About two-thirds of the places will go to Afghans. Europe partly finances the shelter.
