The number of new coronavirus infections in Germany has increased by 8685 in the past 24 hours. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases reports this Monday.
The increase is less than the day before when 11,176 new cases were reported.
On Saturday it was still 14,714 new cases. That was a record.
The total number of infections in Germany now stands at 437,866. The reported death toll rose by 24 to 10,056.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday called on Germans in a video message to limit the number of social contacts and to travel as little as possible.
If residents reduce the number of contact moments “we can jointly face the enormous challenge posed by the virus,” Merkel said.
