In Germany, the number of new coronavirus infections has risen sharply for the third day in a row.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German counterpart of the RIVM, reports that 4516 new cases were registered in the past 24 hours.
That is nearly 500 more than the 4,058 infections reported the day before. Wednesday, there were 2,828 new corona infections.
German Health Minister Jens Spahn raised the alarm on Thursday about the “worrying jump” in the number of corona infections.
Health care is not yet overloaded, he said at a press conference in Berlin. “We want to avoid an exponential rise. If we work with 80 million people, the chances of the virus will decrease dramatically.”
The total number of diagnosed German cases of the lung virus is now 314,660. 9,589 died from the consequences of an infection. That’s an increase from eleven deaths.
