Mass Power Outages in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan

Large parts of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan – three countries in Central Asia – will be without power on Tuesday.

Much of Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, is without power. The same goes for Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, and Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy, the blackouts are the result of an accident. However, there are no more details.

As a result of the power outage, Bishkek airport, among others, has to rely on emergency facilities, and the airport is not operating at full capacity. Moreover, there is still no running water in Bishkek. After all, the pumping installations are at a standstill.

Also, last fall, several countries in Central Asia were hit by blackouts.
