The death toll from the coronavirus has increased sharply in British hospitals. Health authorities report 828 new deaths on Tuesday, significantly more than the day before.
The increase may be due to a post-weekend effect that has also been noticed in the Netherlands, among others. On weekends there is often a delay in the registration of the deceased.
In the UK, 17,337 patients have now died of COVID-19.
According to Sky News, the actual number is much higher because the victims in the care homes have not been included, often because it has not been established with certainty that corona was the cause of the death.
On Tuesday, 4,300 new cases of infection were added in the UK, bringing more than 129,000 to the record.
