The standalone application for iOS and Android lets you virtually visit places and add your own images, but it wasn’t viral.
Google is discontinuing Street View, or its standalone app, on mobile devices. That lesser-known app has the same functionalities as Google Maps with Street View but without the map navigation.
The app lets you take a closer look at places in Street View, and you could use them to add your own images, including 360-degree photo spheres.
But the app is not really known or popular, and most people use Google Maps. And so Google stops Street View. The separate app will disappear from the Android and iOS app stores. Those who want to wander through virtual streets can still address Street View in the broader Google Maps app.
