Mayor of the City Near Kyiv Calls on Residents to Leave

The United States has asked the United Nations to call a public meeting of the Security Council on Monday about the Ukraine crisis because of the threat Russia poses to international peace and security. The US announced this on Thursday.

 

“More than 100,000 Russian troops are stationed on the Ukrainian border. Russia continues to destabilize Ukraine, posing a clear threat to international peace and security and the UN Charter,” US Ambassador to the UN Linda said. Thomas-Greenfield, know in the statement.

Russia is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and has veto power. Therefore, the country can block any proposal from the council with its own hands.

On Thursday, US President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelensky. He promised “resolutely” US support if Russia decided to invade Ukraine.
