China has hidden the magnitude of the coronavirus outbreak in its country. It reported fewer infections and deaths from the disease.
The U.S. intelligence agency concluded in a secret report to the White House, say three U.S. officials.
The officials asked to remain anonymous because the report is secret. But the approach, they said, is that China’s public reporting of corona infections and deaths is intentionally incomplete.
Two of the officials said the report concludes that China’s figures are fake.
The report was received by the White House last week, one of the officials said. The White House and the Chinese Embassy in Washington have not responded to the report.
