In the US House of Representatives, virtually everyone has voted in favour of a bill banning Russian oil, gas and other fossil fuels.
The vote (414-17) means the import ban will be effective in 45 days. Only two Democrats and 15 Republicans voted against the ban.
President Joe Biden announced the import ban on Tuesday. The Kremlin said on Wednesday that the United States had “declared economic war” on Russia.
Passing the bill will also allow for steps to be taken to deny Russia access to the World Trade Organization.
