First Russian Diplomat in Afghanistan Since Taliban Takeover

Russia has stationed its first diplomat in Afghanistan since the Taliban regained power last year. This makes Russia one of the first countries to have an envoy in the Central Asian country again.

Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday called the presence of NATO and the United States in neighbouring countries of Afghanistan unacceptable.

He believes that the Western military has no business in the region. In the coming days, Russia will discuss the situation in Afghanistan with China, the US, Pakistan and Taliban envoys.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping says Afghanistan is on the brink of going from “chaos back to order”. “A peaceful, stable, and developed Afghanistan is the desire of the Afghan people.”
